Extreme Spelling Bee

Definitions, parts of speech, and being pied in the face with whipped. A messy and exciting twist on a time-honored tradition of spelling complex words that no one knew existed.

Directions

Each bunk plays a round of spelling bee until they have three people left (could vary depending on the size of the bunk). Then join together with the other bunks from the edah and that group of campers does spelling bee led by the staff leading the peulat erev. For the final 10 campers left, every person who loses gets pied in the face with whipped cream (it’s fun to make this a surprise for the final 10 people, it adds an element of fun) obviously the words get progressively harder and then you play until there’s one winner. Need to create a long list of words to play with getting progressively harder. Need bunk staff to be there to facilitate spelling bee for bunk in first few rounds. Need plates with whipped cream. As campers get “out” they’ll sit on the benches and cheer for the campers that are still in.

Here is another idea: Hebrew Transliteration Spelling Bee!

Ask Joel for a list of transliteration (he is very particular about transliteration!) and then give campers hebrew words to spell with his correct English transliteration.
