Leil Where's ___? (the Rosh)

The Rosh Edah has gone missing! Chanichim have to complete a scavenger hunt and challenges at each location in order to get clues to find the Rosh.

Educational Goal/Jewish Value

Various - learn about the places in camp is great for younger chanichim, and challenges could easily incorporate Ivrit + Jewish values

Recommended Location

Outdoor

Directions

There's a lot of freedom built in here, but here's the basic premise: BEFORE Dinner - create kvutzot of chanichim, 8-12 per kvutzah depending on edah-to-tzevet ratio, and assign each a color shirt to wear to dinner. Intro - Designate one madrich/a to be in charge of making sure everyone makes it to the makom after dinner. Start in your makom t'fillah with chanichim sitting by kvutzah. Once it's confirmed that everyone's there, the opening skit is all the madrichim asking each other where the Rosh is? Have fun with it, ask the chanichim, see what people think...etc. THEN...a tzevet member finds an envelope somewhere around the makom with different colored notes, each with a starting clue. The envelope reads something like "Ayfo ha-Rosh Shelanu?" (or could be a "ransom note" and a little more evil; again, lots of freedom here) Main Peulah - each kvutzah will get their first clue and the madrichim will suggest the edah splits up, follows their clues, and tries to find the Rosh. The clues will bring them to different locations around the machaneh where they can complete challenges in order to get new clues (the challenge givers could be a "kidnapper's minion" for example). Kvutzot will complete the same cycle of locations but starting at different places, all ending either back at the makom t'fillah or another location. Closing - Once the edah is back at the final location, they'll see that the Rosh is there! Based on the specific framing, it could be that they wandered off and just made it back, that you defeated the kidnapper (with an evil tzevet member as a cameo), or something else. Wrap up and sing Rad Hayom :)

Materials

- Sets of clues for each team - Clearly defined/described order of going from one location to the next for each kvutzah - Any specific challenge-related materials

Helpful Tips

Coordination is key. Consider how long it will take to move the kvutzah to each location and how long each challenge will take. It's important that everything is as even as possible or you might end up with a bottleneck of one kvutzah waiting for another to finish. Overall, this is a good fun peulah for young chanichim early on in the kayitz to help them also learn about the different locations in camp.
