Directions

Instructions:

  • Have campers stand in a circle holding the tarp at chest height.

  • Place a tennis ball on top of the tarp.

  • The goal: toss the ball into the air, flip the tarp over, and catch the ball before it hits the ground.

  • To encourage team planning, withhold the ball at first. Explain the challenge, and only give the ball when the group has a strategy they feel at least 50% confident about.

  • If the group succeeds, increase the challenge by:

    • Adding a second tennis ball.

    • Requiring campers to hold the tarp with one hand.

Group Reflection Questions:

  • What strategies did your team use that were successful?

  • How did communication impact your success?

  • What challenges did you face, and how did you work through them?

  • What was frustrating, and how did you push through?

  • How did your team respond when a strategy didn’t work?

  • What role did encouragement and positivity play in your success?
